7FT Gundam Papercraft, the movie.

Project branding and info graphics.
A behind the scenes look at the making of this project.
A behind the scenes look at the fantasy photography for this project.

I started at the head and worked my way down through the rest of the body parts.

Jetpack details.

Upper body and hip skirts assembled.

I built an inner skeleton out of foam board for additional support.

Feet being assembled.

Legs being assembled with several layers of parts on top of each other.

Gundam standing without arms attached. Keeping the upper back open until the end allowed me to make adjustments to its inner skeleton.

I’m usually very focused when working on one of these big projects, but whenever my younger brother shows up things get humorous and off task very quickly.

My lovely wife showing the Gundam some love.

Whatever I work at I do it with all my heart for God’s glory and for my personal fulfillment.

The source of my inspiration and guidance.

Christalin from my 65 Roses project got a chance to meet the 7FT Gundam. Her amazement was priceless.
Project teaser video launched one month before the official project reveal.

Teaser poster design.

Printed teaser poster.
[ OVERVIEW ]
After burning my 4FT Freedom Gundam papercraft in 2010 I was determined to create a bigger and better replacement. This 7FT Gundam Mk-2 papercraft became the result of my goal, made up of 1250 parts on 720 pages, for a total paper weight of 10lb (4.5kg).

very cool the papercraft
Will this model be available for people to build?
Fantastic!!! beats everything made by BANDAI!! I just can’t love it more, and hope I got the chance to build one at my home
This is brilliant! Really great work, I can’t really judge by the quality and cleanness, but it looks top notch from the pictures. Instead of burning this work of all works, why not encase it in glass?
Thank you, but who said anything about burning it?
Amazing work, Taras! Love your work. Love the design of A7 too. Keep up the great work^^b
This is crazy! This is the bigger paperwork I never seen.
and… it will burn too?
Congratulations for the new creation!
Thanks. Yeah, I’m sure it would make a nice fire very quickly…
Very good Gongratulation my friend

I love this!!!! How can I get my hands on this papercraft model? That would be my ultimate build!!!!!!PLease let me know ASAP.
Love it! I hope you will not burn this one.. I hope someday you will think of something even more bigger. Keep up.
Another beautiful model. I am impressed with the size.
you please provide this model?
Why the crosses… just why..
Why are you so offended by it?
The guy builds a guinness record holding papercraft and all you can see is the crosses? Religion aside, you seem to have some general bigotry issues to handle.
Sick project Taras, respect!
Great Work!!! But, not burning!!!!!
No burning this time, I promise!!!
buried it or toss it to the sea its not an option also okay!!
(*still mad about the burning gundam)
Its a really great work after all, don’t waste it please
Don’t worry, I’ll try to keep it safe for as long as possible.

This is great…. Huge… and Creative..
Good Luck Bro..
OMG this is very AWESOME dude !!
You’re very genius. I am waiting for the next project.
Thank you Mike. There will be more to come.
what kind of paper?
Love it, but the crosses seem out of place since well, it never was in the anime.
(I can respect the religion thing.)
Maybe make an alternate version if you release this, with the AEUG logo in place of the crosses? I dunno.
There’s nothing out of place. It’s all as I intended for it to be.
you mean… as He intended it to be.
awesome job! would love to know if you have a smaller scale that my sons and i can follow to make?
So cool man! Talking about “burn”, why not make a picture of this guy standing in the fire? Would be very cool!
This kicks origami back to Japan
Nice one Leo. I like that.
I like it!)
can you tell what the soundtrack in video?
I have been placed speechless sir.
This has got to be the coolest papercraft I have ever seen.
Love the finished product, but mostly how you express your faith in your creativity. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you Kyle. I’m glad you see that through my work.
Very special work !!!
I Love It !!!
I’d like to try to make it myself, will you share your projects?
What are the chances of you releasing the design for just the head. I know I’d love to have staring me down while I work.
I’ve considered releasing the helmet, but I honestly don’t want to touch this project again after all the time I put into it.
I completely understand that feeling. Keep up the good work man.
My son would love you forever if you could release the helmet ( he wants me to make him a wearable suit for Halloween). …and it’s great to see God’s glory on display, as well. My son took a printed photo to his youth Pastor at our Church to explain why when he says “Gundam” he’s not swearing…
Thanks, that’s a great story!
I might just have to make the helmet downloadable because of that.
This is freaking awesome papercraft. Love it!!
epic man, do you sell it? the pages and the scematic to another person build it? if yes i’m interested. =]
Legendary! I need one in my office!!!
It is really gorgeous! It must took you much time. Really appreciate it!
Yes, lots of time, but worth the effort. Thank you Kevin!
I am from Hong Kong, China, you are genius of art and i can see your effort to make this MK-2! I appreciate your creative mind and persistence! go ahead and create more gundams! looking forward to your next creation!
Hi Wai. I’m glad this made it out to you out in Hong Kong.
this is absolutely amazing! the dedication and effort you place in all of these projects especially this gundam one is worth all the praise and I am happy to see the inspiration and energy you have on making these is dedicated to the Lord. kudos to you sir and good luck to you and your future projects! – Seraph from Manila, Philippines
Thank you Seraph. Greetings going out the the Philippines.
Woah! Congrats! I think it’s pretty clever, organized and very creative.
You should consider making copies as i’m sure others would love to have a superb Gundam like this. In the other hand, it will lose his “uniqueness” so probably the helmet idea will work out for the best.
Son, you have really scared all with the first Gundam burning.
Folks, have no fear – this one WILL NOT burn! It’s too precious.
Dad
It will burn when I start running out of space in my house. Or, it can go live with you Dad.
No worries, either he will end up somewhere in a museum, or we can always set him a launch pad in our family room here. Instead of that palm tree
))
Dad
I can just say…i love it!! Amazing~!
Thanks Alex.
Awesome work Mr. Lesko. I’m now a big fan of your work;)
Thank you Michael.
Brilliant !
Are you going to start a company offering paper models ?
Or is this process available for customization models ?
I’m still trying to figure all that out. Perhaps in the near future.
i hope it will be made affordable for everyone! its an art after all and a hobby not a luxury!
This is absolutely fantastic! I have bookmarked your website and I hope to see your next project!
ciao sentite ma dove posso trovare i pezzi x farlo anch’io ?
che mi piacerebbe metterlo in mostra a casa mia

Please sell DIY kits with all the pieces and a manual.
I’m planning to do that in the near future, but not for this papercraft.

Just wow ! i have a few plastic gundam 1/100 scale and i used to love them, but now i’ve seen your gundam i feel jalous
You’ve made an amazing job, congratulations !
As a lot of others people i’d like to have the opportunity to build my own, i hope you’ll release the model
Thank you and sorry for making your plastic Gundam models look a little less cool.
Hey, awesome model. Can you let us know what software you used (both 3d and papercraft). I would love to try to make something…you’ve inspired me!
Thanks. I generally use Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D and Pepakura.
This is AWESOME! Loving the Bible verses and so on!
May God be with you, now and forever.
Thank you daveoboy97 for appreciating.
U’R GENIUS.. awesome work
what about a berlusconi papercraft?
(sadly somebody will burn it instantly)
bye
amazing and unique art work that made all say “i got to have that” regardless of which they are a gundam fan, lover or not. you set the standards of paper art to the highest level only people can imagine or dream of. you made paper come alive.. whats next??? how bout gundam wing zero custom? one of my favorite!!!! keep it up… maybe someday i’ll have a chance to see it in person!
Thank you. Probably no Gundams for a while. I’ve got plenty of other ideas.
Awesome job! Quite motivating … proves that anyone can make anything with ANYTHING !
Thank you Gokul. Glad I can prove that with something as simple as paper.

I have built several perfect grade gundams… This has to be my next project!!!
感動した! I’m impressed!
The cross fits nicely, Was that an original part of the model, or was that customized in the design? One of the gundam models I put together has a similar cross design on the shield.
It’s something I came up with and added.
Really awesome job well done! Do you mind sharing the paper cut outs images? I want to try a miniature one too!

Awesome!!! You did really great work.
Your papercraft Gundam is reported really widely in Japan!!
Did you know about it?
You are now very famous in Japan!
Thank you. No, I wasn’t aware of that, but that’s great because I would love to visit Japan some day.
maybe you can check following links!
And google(Japan) seararch result is over 2,000,000!!
keywords(in Japanese) : 高さ2メートル ガンダム

Oh, sorry. I tell you wrong information. I didn’t check correctly. My search words was not accurate.
Now(2011/11/15) the results related on your work is first 8 to 9 pages(still growing).
but I believe report about your work is growing because we know about your great work yesterday, and many people commented in News, blogs, and so on.
I think Google(japan) cached much more pages in few days!!
Thank you for all the research Mitsuru. I’ll give it some time and see where it goes.

Wonderfullllllllllll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paper ? I do NOT think !
And why not?
Can I have the design? maybe scale down like the 4 ft? really wanna ad to my personal collection. Really love what you did there.
Awesome job dude! Any chance you could tell me what plotters you are using?
You should totally make Batman’s Tumbler!
Thank you. It’s Silhouette SD.
Gracias, keep up the good work!!
No words… total respect!
Taras,
That’s a huge effort you put in there. Papercrafts I’ve done have taken months so this gundam would have taken ages. What weight paper do you use and do you print only on A4. you can have a look at my efforts on deviant art if your interested.
http://lubre53.deviantart.com/
I used 110lb cardstock letter size paper, but that usually depends on the project. You’ve got some nice papercrafts as well.

I would suggest making 1:1 scale Gundam cockpit from 00 or maybe original RX-79 cockpit.
You know in Japan someone already made real 1:1 model which is real awesome. Google it ^_^b
Yes, but how many people did it take to make that happen?
You should get this marketed in mass and in co-operation with Gundam creators, you could make some coin off it!
Congratulations, you have an outstanding talent and I wish you lots of success and all the best. Gundam was my son’s absolute favorite when he was a teen. I have sent him a link to your site, which I am certain he will appreciate immensely. You have given life to this fictional character in an exceptional manner.
Congratulations, what a fantastic translation of a fictional character into a perfect life size figure. Perfect execution and clean work. My son loved the Gundam figurines when he was a teen, I have sent him a link to your site and I am sure he will appreciate it immensely. You have an outstanding talent and I wish you lots of success in pursuing your art form
Thank you for appreciating and sharing Carlos.

Seriously, with all of the interest, you should post this up on Kickstarter. I’m sure that you could get enough people together to make it worthwhile to get a commercial printer make up kits. You could keep control of the files and maybe even make a few bucks to pay for your time to create the next one
I would love to be able to build this as a father/son project. It would also make a really cool project for a church youth group.
If it’s something that you’d consider, but don’t have the time to pursue, let me know and I’d be happy to help.
Thanks, neat idea. I haven’t thought of using that service yet for something like this.
Man these are my longtime Favortie Gundams and you just blew me away, After you showing how you build it. AWESOME JOB!!!!!!! Keep up more models to make.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed seeing this.
this is an outstanding work of art you have made. ive always wished i had the talent to be able to do this myself. id have tons of these models. id like to give a shot on making a 4ft liger zero Jager. id like to make these instead of the plastic ones would save me lots of money
Hey Chris, you should try designing one yourself. There’s no reason why you wouldn’t be able to.
Is there a DIY section for this? I want to piss off my friends they brought the real Bandai 5 footer for $5000. I rather have this. Please give me your DIY if possible. Really Apprecitated
There’s a real 5ft Bandai model? I’d love to see it.
Here is the link
http://io9.com/5689312/add-a-5+foot+tall-gundam-to-your-living-room-for-only-3800
But I think yours better. Very creative in terms of the outcome. Much props for your workmanship!
I would LOVE to create yours and put it in my office!
)
It’s a bit plain looking visually. I would assume Bandai would make something more interesting, especially for something that big.
Yes after seeing your video and months of thinking and creating it. It’s a lot of work and you did an EXCELLENT JOB! Much praise for you!
Thank you Raymond for appreciating the effort.
Amazing work man. I’m definitely a fan now.
I will admit that I’m a bit sad that you’re not going to release the .pdo files. This would make for an awesome costume base. If you ever do, please let me know.
How long did it take to make this project?
Around 350 hours for the papercraft and 1 year for the entire project, whenever I had the time for it.

Thank you.
Hey Taras!! Bro im so hyped over ur creation! Your work is just brilliant. I’m doing a project on graphic designs/sculpture and i would like to do an artist case study on you. i was wondering if u can answer some basic questions.
What did you get your inspiration and what kind of concept would you say your creation is of? These two questions wud mean alot to me! -Kay N from Singapore!
Thanks Kay. I got inspired by the miniature model you see in my photos and videos because of its design. I like to say that I do Graphic Design Arts so I would classify most of my work as such.
It so fantastic . Can I get the file to build it?
This is brilliant!!.. And pretty awesome.. Keep it up and hope to see more of this type of papercraft.. and once again.. nice job ^^
WOW that is one awesome papercraft model.

You’re freaking AMAZING!!! However next time you decide to burn one of your incredible art pieces, please consider calling me first!!!
Really love this…very impressive. And really hoping that the helmet gets released so I can make my own
Keep up the great work
This is amazing and inspiring. I have just started doing papercraft and really want to do big models like this. I just want to know what model and brand your cutters are. I am currently cutting out by hand but the plotters look much better and allow you to concentrate on the design
Hey Leedz, the plotters I use are called Silhouette SD. It’s a great tool to have because you don’t have to print the guide lines and it makes very clean fold lines.
Awesome. Thanks heaps for the quick reply. How long before your next project? I’m guessing it will be something 10ft high this time
You’re welcome. I’m actually working on a new papercraft car at the moment. Follow my Facebook page for upcoming updates.
hope to see your 7FT Gundam – Ultimate Papercraft @ this years anime expo in los angeles.
ehi man!!! YOU ARE AWESOOOOOOOME!!!
Great job. You really are brilliant. Very cool the papercraft!!
Is there a download link?
I’m very sorry. I AM blown away by the detail in this model and I want to build it VERY badly. However, my boyfriend is a Gundam fan and with all the religious stuff on it. It’s not really the same character anymore. I was very sad to see all the Christian stuff on it because it makes it not fun for everyone. I just feel bad that I can’t make it without the crosses and such on it. Really brought me down. I mean I live in a Christian family but I don’t feel like changing a character’s look does anything but deface the character and the company who worked hard to design the look of the character for the show. It should be kept so everyone can feel the same about it you know? I don’t want to offend anyone or cause any uproar. I have a lot of respect for someone putting so much love and effort into such a beautiful piece …I’m just …sad. I dunno.
You don’t understand the real meaning of Christianity, otherwise you would understand why it’s the core of all my personal work. I hope some day you will.
Nice!! How many pages did this use? Also, instead of Gundam, try build the Sazabi or Zeon zaku/Dom?
You have taken Papercraft to an awesome new level…I SALUTE you! And, by God’s hand, you’ve done Anime a tremendous service in the process…WELL DONE!!
